Vision

Because of the recent economic conditions, Hawai`i and the rest of the world are trying to come to terms with “the new normal.” Politically expedient decisions with little consideration to long term consequences must be replaced with collaborative thinking and creativity. There need not be a contradiction between doing what is necessary in the short term and doing what is necessary to build a prosperous future for all. There must be a balance.

Our immediate goals must be to return our keiki to safe, well staffed classrooms, create employment for our jobless workers, and restore vital government services, particularly in the courts and for disadvantaged children and families. Hungry children living in abusive situations cannot be the ‘new norm.’

I have a vision of Hawaii as a self-reliant, vibrant and thriving island economy with renewable energy sources replacing dependency on fossil fuels, diversified business integrated within a healthy, natural environment, and a renewed priority on agriculture as a viable industry.

I envision the public schools fulfilling their civic mission by preparing our youth for professions that support the ecosystems of our islands, grow a local living economy, and foster lifestyles of collaboration, inclusiveness, and creativity through sustained, stable funding that inclusively and equitably serves all of our children.

I have a vision of a renewed and vibrant representative government in Hawaii through the civic engagement of all citizens, the inclusion of youth, and with leadership by Native Hawaiians.

I envision a revitalization of the people’s roles in government and deliberate decisions made by those in public office based on the enlivened values and traditions of our host culture. I see the heart of aloha restored in the manner with which people are treated and the way in which we prepare ourselves to participate in a civil society.

I believe in the infinite potential of human beings and want to share a truly fulfilling life with others in developing this potential completely. My vision is Hawaii as an example of what is possible when guiding principles and coherent decisions are focused on the well-being of people, particularly the children, and grounded in the values and practices of our Hawaiian culture.
